Hi all,

This week's poll question is about news that Hulu now offers an ad-free service for $4 more a month than its standard service. Discuss here if you think this was a good idea, and, if you like, the poll results themselves.

Thanks,
Justin

Sad to say, this confirm that Website paywall (or paid subscription) is becoming more of a social norms today. Heading into extinction are the days when we enjoy reading, watching and listening to whatever interested us for free over the Internet.

I was thinking of asking "wot the hulu is Hulu"? But was little too obvious a play on words...

More and more sites are starting the demand subscriptions; even a few decent forums too. Although in the case of the latter they do appear to allow the grandfather clause to apply - for those already registered on a given forum.

I really don't mind ads, I usually ignore them and do my own thing while they're playing. But the $4 additional charge is substantial for something as simple as skipping a few seconds of noisy ads. If it was $1 then I'd be all for it but $4 of ad-free service is also $4 of food and snacks in my eyes.
