Hi Justin or jpishgar, because they are many different features between laptops and desktops, I was wondering if it would be possible to make an option that is mandatory when making a post that they either choose desktop or Laptop before they can post.

It would save some time when answering posts,
Thanks

Hey,

I don't think adding any more mandatory fields is necessarily such a good idea. This is because, people might be posting about various issues that don't involve either a laptop or a desktop. I mean, our goal is generally to simplify the posting process so that users can receive help easily. This also allows regulars on the site to see a more wide variety of questions as more posts = more interesting things to think about.

See what I mean?

Thanks for the reply. I guess I see what you mean, it's just that many times people are inquiring for help and they don't specify, so it would be senseless to say to remove the bios battery, remove pci cards, if they were using a laptop, etc...

Hey,

Of course, but, again, there are tons of different situations where you could argue for mandatory information (such as what Anti-virus are you running, etc). Plus, it always seems that users will give you the level of information they want to give. If they want to be lazy and give almost no information, they will find a way to do it no matter what you require. It makes no sense to me, but somehow always happens!
