Earlier this evening I had a reason to go onto the web looking for yellow bras. Why I was looking for yellow bras is a long story I wont go into. However I ended up an a site belonging to Debenhams. For those not familiar with the UK retail market Debenhams is a retail outlet specialising in female apparel.

A few hours later I now find that I am getting adverts for Debenhams coming up on this site. I cant believe that they are just a random advert simply because I have UK IP address. I must say that I am quite impressed as to how quickly they managed to latch onto someone that seems to be interested in ladies underwear, If this goes on one could end up with an unsavory reputation.

Hey,

This is not uncommon. Ad networks seem to work that way more and more. A while back, I was looking for hotels. I was on Red Roof Inn's site... Now I see red roof inn ads all over the Internet.

Hey,

I believe there are ways to opt-out of that, but you'd have to opt-out of like every ad network on the net.

Blocking 3rd-party cookies would likely hamper this tracking as well. Any time you visit a site that is heavily funded by advertising you'll probably be hit with an order of magnitude more 3rd party cookies than 1st party cookies.
