How to retrieve deleted unix sub directory in SUNOS 5.9, unix directroy deleted it contains all important files.
I don't think there is anything you can do. I will be interested to see if anybody comes up with a solution.
Googling does throw up a few commercial utilities that claim to to this for a UFS disk, but it's going to depend upon what's happened to the disk since. The simple answer is that you restore the directory from the backups that every user keeps. What would you have done if the hard drive decided to explode, or the computer was lost in a fire?
With any OS and any storage media you must have a backup of important data. There are many causes of data loss, not all of which can be prevented, and you must be prepared. Having only one copy of important data is asking for trouble, and sooner or later you will get it.
