Boot Hardware Device

June 8, 2011 at 06:28:54
Specs: Solaris 10
I get the Can't open boot device message upon booting up a Sunv880 Sunfire Solaris 10 server
which we recently came into possession of.
How do I get past this message?

Have you got a fully installed sun solaris server, or was it just the hardware, you've got?

Fully Installed Sun Solaris Server as this server was our disaster recovery server at another site which has gone out of business.
We were able to purchase the Sunv880 server.
I had no problems booting up in the past.
Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I suggest to download and burn a solaris live cd and boot the server with it, to see, whether the hard drive will be found.
Then you can also check, whether the data at the hard drive is accessable.

This is the first step, just to make sure, that the hard drive is ok.

That is an openbios complaint. Either there is some bios issue or hardware issue or software issue.

All you need is at the Oracle site. Sun had/has great documentation available.

1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.
