Zbot MNS Trojan

January 27, 2010 at 10:12:27
Specs: Windows XP
Hi, I really need help of a professional. This trojan has ruined my entire day. I did the most stupidest thing of giving my external to my friend, in return he gave me this beautiful little gift. I tried to format my hard disk and reinstall my windows, twice. but it somehow gets triggered. The second time it got triggered when i started adobe premiere pro. I have 3 externals but haven't formatted them because i don't have the space to backup. Every time i log on to the net it gets triggered. But avast and Malwarebytes disables its functions (atleast thats what i think). Here is the path and the filename that gets quarantined by Malwarebytes C:\WINDOWS\Temp\VRT1D3.tmp. The last 3 alpha-numeric keeps changing. Can someone help me to end this and clean my pc from this dreadful virus.

Ps: Is it possible that the virus is sitting somewhere in the external too?? How do i them from there?? I am trying to avoid formatting since i have too much data on it.

Try Trojan remover and remove all it finds. Disconnect your external drives till you eliminate the infections.

For the external drive, do an avast scan on them, just right click the drive and click on scan with avast.

yes definetly a trojan remover.
i have xpsp3 also and find microsoft generally have the best prgrmmes for it.
let the Essentials prgramme do a ful scan also.
remove as much unnecessary luggage from the C and D drives u can recognise as Alien or unuseful. Defragmentate both regularly.
These are to find in Start AllProgrmmes System Tools.
Try to remove adobe should u not use all the features then it consumes too much disc space. use Foxit it is not as insecure as adobe.
hope this helps good luck.
Run the microsoft removal tool also ... regular.

the above is good for information on how to Clean the system.
good luck.

when i started scanning with Trojan remover, more than half the windows file were infected. so as kiwipc suggested to delete all the Alien or unused file, i deleted every thing except songs, video, word docs, my work files (photoshop, after effects, maya, max, premiere). The setup backup of different software on my external was also infected so deleted those. Deleted all the game cracks, keygens, patch. Deleted all of the warez software. And also before backing up my songs, video, word docs and work files i checked each folder,in which they were stored, manually to see if there was any kind of infection residing in those folder (mostly it was .tmp and sometimes unknown .exe files). It was tedious job but was worth it because some of them were hidden in those folder. Formatted the external which i had given to my friend and also my comp hdd. Then i went ahead and did a clean install. Now all is well so far. Thank you once again.
