Windows will not boot in any mode

October 15, 2009 at 09:35:55
Specs: Windows XP
Something happened to this laptop when my daughter was using it. It continually restarts, goes to the mode screen and then closes and goes thru the same process over and over and over.

I can not start under any mode. I can not use the windows OS disk or the recovery disk. The computer responds to nothing.

I also did reset BIOS defaults. Nothing happened.

Is there any hope?

It goes straight to the safe mode screen. I have tried all the modes including last safe configuration. They all do the same thing. The files run and the windows screen flashes, then a super-fast blue screen that I am unable to read, then right back to safe mode screen. Its a circle.

I tried using the OS disk and the recovery disk. Neither had any affect at all. The computer did not even recognize there was a disk in there.

my daughter told me the last thing she downloaded was... limewire. A huge no-no in this home.

I am on my way out the door.. going out of town till Sunday. I will check back for any advice.

Thanks for any help you can offer!

1st of all tap the key to go into the bios and set the boot order so it will boot from cdrom.
and here are the steps to do a repair install of XP:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/...
After that you will have to download all the critical updates again.

Instead of Limewire, you would be better off using Frostwire which is free and has NO spy or adware installed:
http://www.frostwire.com/?id=downloads

good luck
