If you are talking about the security center, I would (if you haven't) install your prefered antivirus, and then select the button in the center that says I will monitor/use my own antivirus, this will disable the constant reminder. If this is the issue

windows does NOT have to monitor your anti-virus...get rid of Avira (it's quite weak) and install Avast Free, much better protection and no scheduled scans or updates...it is all automatic

The alert is just to let you know that you are not using windows security services for anti-virus. It doesn't mean that your system is totally unprotected. As long as you use a good service, and it is updated you will be ok.

Sounds like it might be an illegal copy, otherwise use the product key that came with the disk to fix. if it is a genuine copy this might help

Hi, I use Windows XP and I've been having the same problem - Windows Security Center keeps popping up with a warning saying no anti-virus detected, when I have Avast installed and working.

I have ticked the box in the WSC to say I will monitor/use my own anti-virus and no longer get the warning, but what I don't understand is that this problem has only been happening for the last couple of weeks or so, when I have had Avast for about a year now without this message popping up. Only thing I can think of is that perhaps Avast auto-upgraded to a new version that WSC does not recognise but I just wondered - is this anything I should be worried about?

Thanks.

as long as you see the avast tray icon and it shows that you are protected, you have nothing to worry about. If you notice that the icon has an exclamation mark on it, then click on it and it will tell you what is going on. Sometimes it alerts you when you have to download the newest version.

In the future it may be wise to start your own thread so that others will see your problem and you can get other views.

Ah ok, cheers. All is ok with Avast and all working. I'll start my own thread in future. Thanks again.
