1- does it give any kind of error number?
2- Is it a pop-up that interferes with you accessing IE or whatever Browser you are using?

Nope it doesn't affect anything that am doing online or otherwise, it shows up on the bottom right of the task bar along with the other icons like volume and network connections icon display. It is located in the windows Action Center with a red x by it. and it says important. Because from the time this icon showed up I ahve not been able to update windows

the best free antivirus is Avast Free:
http://filehippo.com/download_avast...
i've been using it for almost 10 yrs, knocks the heck out of almost all the others because it has the best real-time protection and automatic updates daily and you don't need any scheduled scans.
I've use Trend Micro, AGB, Avira & some others and Avast has proven to be the best. I install it on all the repairs that I do.

Now for your problem, you can try Malwarebytes, update it and run a full scan to start with.

Is your windows 7 32 or 64 Bit?
