Win Antivirus popups

April 27, 2011 at 21:43:05
Specs: Windows 7
Been getting these popups the past few days. It's a fake 'antivirus' popup that tries to scan my system (or appears to) and the only way to get it to stop is to force a Firefox shutdown. Need this spyware gone. I've read other people having the same problem but the people answering ask for logs and stuff, and I have no clue what I'm looking for in those logs so.... can anyone walk me through this?

Hi,
You can start by downloading Malwarebytes and update and run a full scan.
Here is the link: http://www.malwarebytes.org/

Chances are you are not infected. To confirm download ESET Online Scanner from this link and run a scan.

Do you have Antivirus protection and what is it?

I just use avast free antivirus. I had run a full scan from that and it detected some spyware.exe file in my temp directory so I deleted that. dunno if it did anything or not.

edit: nope, I'm still getting that popup. I just tried replicating it and it happened again.

It's whenever I'm using google image search, and I click on a random image, it sometimes pops up and I have to shut everything down.

Alright, I'm back. I ran Eset last night with no results found. Today I ran Rkill, it terminated a process, I ran Malwarebytes again, and it turned up nothing again.

@Louis_899 nope, just the name of the window that pops up, Windows AntiVirus 2011, and the other topics on this site.
