Why can't I access the internet

January 13, 2011 at 00:16:13
Specs: Windows 7, core2duo T6600/4GB
My wife accidently downloaded the virus "security tool". I successfully got rid of it, but now I can't get access to the internet.. The computer says I have excellent signal strength. It is a wireless connection on an HP lap top. New within the last 6 months. it was fast and working well up until this. It is running windows 7. When I run the diagnostics, it comes back with "the remote device or resoure won't accept the connection". Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Check your web browser to make sure it did not "use proxy" in the connections tab under lan settings. Also check the tcp/ip settings on the network adapter make sure they are set to obtain an IP automatically and DNS automatically. That's a start.

Thanks, I did that already and it was set to use a proxy. I read something in another forum about that. It is amazing that these damn virus' can do that crap. Someone needs to get hold of these a-holes and string them up.
