I won't deny that either of the above are fine applications, but personally I use Avast (an older version that's still updated):

https://www.avast.com/en-us/free-an...

Be aware that newer versions try to install Google Chrome, however, but you can deselect this option during the install process. The older version I use is 5.1 (which still gets daily updates)

Well I'm, not sure if everyone gets to read this or just the person above or below where I found this.I'd Like to THANK YOU ALL for Your TIME and Responses! They ALL Were Good and Helpful as well.In the end I went with Avast Again After all,Due MAINLY because So MANY of The OTHERS WANTED to PLAN GAMES and TRY to DECEIT THEIR CUSTOMERS.Same as The reviews mostly.
How can You EQUALLY COMPARE FREE with a FREE for 30days ONLY then YOU HAVE NOTHING!No Comparison there if You ask me.But of Course THEY ALL TRY TO MAKE YOU THINK THEY ARE OFFERING A FREE YR as well.THEN THEY want to Play HIDE and SEEK with the Little BIT of Free deal They do offer by Stashing and or making it a Career to find the proper Download spot for the free deal!SCREW THEM ALL!And I did SEE AVAST TRY TO SNAKE THY CHROME Gig on Me right AWAY and DENIED IT!Then Through out the Night They would TRY AND THROW THIS and THAT in as well!Browser deal and a few others, but I was QUICK ON EM!The GUY that POSTS ALL the FREE BONUS gigs and Tips etc was who steered me the rest of the way to Avast along with some more research and thought. As I did use them for like 10yrs or more already, couldn't be that bad.I'd like to thank HIM For His input and ALSO For all the GREAT FREE and Help Tips etc.I found A lot of those VERY USEFUL and LEARNED a bunch more ALONG the Way as I took NOTES.Thanks everybody! This is a Very NICE SITE!Hope EVERYONE has a GREAT HOLIDAY and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

IMO, AVAST wasn't the best choice, but definitely better than MSE.

I'm currently testing Kaspersky Free Antivirus: https://usa.kaspersky.com/free-anti...

"IMO, AVAST wasn't the best choice, but definitely better than MSE"
Go to any malware forum & no matter what AV is used, they got infected, it is up to the USER to be vigilant.
MSE will be fine.

MSE doesn't offer the protection I need. If all someone is going to do is check email & look at cat videos, I'm sure it's fine.

Hi,I seen that you were trying out Kaspersky anti virus.I just was wondering what you think?
I put that on my old XP laptop and it made it SUPER SLOW.But they said I Should go and remove that new one and install their 2017 version as it will work better with my antique XP!
Thanks for your time and any Input You care to share.

Hey all,
Well I tried the Kaspersky and was disappointed in the performance and the amount it seemed to slow down my XP system.I went back to Avast on my windows 7 ultimate system but I am still not sure of them as it seems they are always UP TO SOMETHING and SAYING THINGS ARE THIS AND THAT so I need this which is Not true!THEY JUST WANT TO SELL STUFF.THEREFORE i find it very hard to trust them period!I also tried the BAIDU am am still using them on my XP system,BUT I was unable to download any of the extra features they offer for some reason. It tries to do it and at end says FAILED.ANY IDEA AS TO WHY?Or has ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS PROBLEM?I looked for a way to contact support on this but have failed to find anyway to get any decent support for the BAIDU Antivirus, which really sucks. Also I just read a bunch of reviews and have found that they ranked VERY POORLY COMPARED TO MOST OTHER ANTIVIRUSES period. Therefore I am back in the SAME BOAT I WAS PREVIOUSLY!Looking for a GOOD all round FREE Antivirus for Both my XP 3 and my windows 7 Ultimate version 6.1x 86 2009 service pack 1 32 bit system as well.ANY SUGESTIONS or THOUGHTS would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!One other thing I would like top ask is WHAT WAS THE FIX FOR THE FLASHING like 2 x black screen and coming back to normal for the windows 7 ultimate system?I remember reading about it a while back but couldn't find the answer again now.ANY HELP with that as well?Thank You very much for your time and efforts. As I've spent numerous hours trying to get these darn things running better only to end up later with about the same POOR PERFORMANCE ETC.The XP is SUPER SLOW TOO!I'm going to try the adware cleaner again and see what comes up.Thanks!
