You probably have an unwanted rootkit installed
Use these cleaners in this order
1- rkill.exe...stops the running process
2-Tdss killer...removes the rootkit if found
3-Malwarebytes ...removes other unwanted malware
Here is a how to on googling for those:

Let us know if that gets you going, if not, there are other free cleaners we can run ;-)

PS: if you can't get online, download those onto a thumbdrive or burn them to a CD on another PC and then install them on the problem PC.

Some HELP in posting on plus free progs and instructions Cheers

Hi, your reply is super helpful and has a nice sequence of tasks. Unfortunately, yesterday after spending nearly all day trying to fix the desktop, I simply hooked monitor and keyboard to laptop. BUt I think today I will try your suggestions to get back the desktop one.
Thank you so much!
By the way, if I can't get onto internet, how can i access those programs to run?
