There is no "best", only what each user feels does the best work for him/her. Since you are familiar with AVG, you might want to use their free program. You find it at their home page, which is ... AVG.COM.

You should not have two antivirus programs running together in the background at the same time - it can cause issues.

There are many other freebies that work quite well too, including "Avast" and "Microsoft Windows Defender". The latter is usually built in on Windows 8 and will be re-invoked if you uninstall Norton. The choice is yours, opinions vary, so check the latest reviews on them.

My feeling is to uninstall Norton then let WD take over. Make sure it is working and you will then have protection while you look around and decide whether you would prefer something else long term.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

I agree with Nigel & Derek.

For W8, I use the built in defenses.

AVG Remover eliminates all the parts of your AVG installation from your computer, including registry items, installation files, user files, etc. AVG Remover is the last option to be used in case the AVG uninstall / repair installation process has failed repeatedly.
All AVG user settings will be removed after the uninstall process is complete, as well as content from the Virus Vault and all other items related to AVG installation and use. You will be asked during the removal procedure to restart your computer. Therefore, please make sure to finish your work and save all important data prior to launching AVG Remover.
