weired message on closing chrome

October 14, 2013 at 00:22:37
Specs: Windows 7
When I close Chrome I get a white pop up box that asks

Are you sure you want to leave this page?
Earn extra cash, stay on this page

I cannot think of anything I have installed that could cause this. I have McAfee installed on windows 7. I don't download games or junk. I have never had a virus problem before.

Can you please help?

Does that happen with every Chrome page or just one in particular? McAfee may miss some malware. A start would be to try something like malwarebytes and see if it finds anything:

Thanks for the reply,

It is intermittent and over a 5 day period it has happened 3 times. There does not seem to be any other effects

The 'are you sure you want to leave this page' or similar popups are not uncommon but this is the first one I've seen that implied you could make money.

They're not exclusive to Chrome but here is a discussion by Chrome users that might give you some ideas:

But I'd go ahead and run malwarebytes too.

Run ADWCleaner freebie on it too (checks for unwanted toolbars or their remnants):
Do not Run the download but Save the file somewhere. It does not install but just runs when double clicking the file. After the Scan there is an option to look at the log or even exclude things before running the Clean. Mostly it is quite safe to let it clean completely.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
