I think one or two here prefer Webroot - if not using one of the several freebies around. McAfee doesn't cut it for many of us... Similarly Norton.

I used to find updating McAfee a real trial; even worse than Norton - which in its earlier days was fine...

There are several freebies about: AVG, Avast, Bitdefender, Sophos, Kaspersky to name but some...

Avast can be a resource hog; and can (does on Mac) slow down boot up time noticeably. It also has a recent history of screwing up M$-Office/Outlook - would stop outbound mail.. Certainly still does if you use it on a Mac system (Avast know about it but seem not to care or be into resolving it.) Bitdefender has no such problems.

The freebies have various styles amongst them; some require you to manually scan etc; and also update. Others (Avast is one) run/monitor in the background and auto-update too.

Some like AVG - personally I'm not sold on it; due to earlier experiences with it on '9x/ME systems. It totally disabled/crippled an ME installation at the time and I had to really work at getting rid of it. True it was an age ago - but there are others utils out there that didn't behave that way..

Thank you. I have access to both Webroot as well as McAfee. I guess I will keep the webroot and see what happens.
