Solved w32/blaster.worm - can't run anything

January 24, 2011 at 01:48:05
Specs: Windows XP
A box in the bottom right of the screen says:

DLACTRLW.EXE can not start
file DLACTRLW.EXE is infected by W32/BLASTER.worm

Then I'm told to buy some spyware protection. I can't open anything except explorer and I can't run any programs. I've looked all over for a solution, but everyone advises to download something or other. When I try, I can't run the thing downloaded.

I'm sure I'm being stupid here, but please explain how to get rid of this thing.

Thanks a lot

Did you try boot in safe mode and download there? Or you can download antimalware software on another computer and copy it to flash card and then copy it on your computer. Why you think you have W32/BLASTER.worm?
DLACTRLW.EXE is Drive Letter Access Component.
If you thinks that it was infected you get check in on

Thanks a lot for that. I seem to have sorted this out using safe mode.

Much appreciated.
