Virus or Trojan - wants to fix hard drive

Specs: Windows 7
Just some info on a virus or trojan that hit me the other day. I got about 40 pop ups stating certain windows files failed to load. I then had what appeared to be a windows program stating it needed to fix or repair the hard drive. It started running through the fix, and I had to hard power my computer off. When this occured, all of my desktop icons were gone. When i rebooted in safe mode. I did a windows restore to a few days earlier to clear the problem. When done, I was still missing a bunch of icons, folders and other files from my desktop, pictures folder, etc. It took a bit to figure out, but it appears the program went and marked all the files hidden.
once you do your system restore, i would run AVG anti virus and just make sure you system is clear. Then comes the hard part, go into your folder options and check off the box to "show hidden files / folder and drives". all of your folders and files are still there. You can select multiple hidden files and folder at once, right click, select properties and then uncheck the hidden check box. everything should be good after that

exactly Derek. Just figured if anyone else ran into this, they might search for some help with it and wanted to provide some.
