Virus Infected In BIOS and making funny noise

March 23, 2011 at 05:37:28
Specs: Windows XP
My computer had a virus infected in BIOS and sometime making funny noise. The virus normally prevent the BIOS from detecting IDE drives.
I have tried to do the following actions shown below but still did not stop the virus.
- Run the Avira Rescue CD and scan for viruses and other security threats. Results shown no viruses found.(With update before scan)(Scan whole system)
- Reinstall Windows XP Home Edition(with format)

Description of the virus: The viruses sometime prevent the BIOS from detecting IDE drives. By preventing the BIOS from detecting IDE drives, it make funny noise. This happen 95% of the time. Even through I disconnect the network, this still happen. When the virus happen, I am not able to do anything other than Memory test.(Not even run the Boot From CD and run the setup of the BIOS). When I manage to start the operating system sometime, the virus will run sometime. When the virus is making noise when my OS is started, I am not able to do anything. My computer started to freeze. If the noise and the virus run too long sometime, it will show a Blue Screen error showing that process ended suddenly.

Computer system information:
I am using Phoenix - AwardBIOS V6.00PG
Main processor: Intel Pentium(R) 4.2.80GHz(133x21.0)
Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition
Antivirus: Avira Prem. Security Suite

I ran the boot from cd to run the avira rescue cd that day when there is no noise at that time. The virus is becoming worse these days.

What can I do to stop the virus?

When you ran the CD, there was no noise because the HD wasn't spinning. I think your hard drive is on the way out. That's why it's not detected sometimes. There are only 3 things that make noise in a PC. They are 2 fans & the hard drive. I never heard of a noise making virus.

What box?
By the way, let me give you more information about the virus. The virus was made by my friend. The virus happen when I click the txt file. My friend is a very good programmer. When I send threatening note like I want to make a Police report, then the virus stop. I am very serious about this matter. You may want to do some research on that.

I already know about alternate data streams. If that were your friend, I'd hate to see your enemies. If he is such a good programmer, why doesn't he fix your machine? Stay away from that guy.

Box = tower. Open the tower & find the noise.

Ok. I have told him to go and get lost long time ago. Will the problem solve if I reinstall the Bios? If yes, give me the setup file. If no, what can I do now?

Then you have to find someone who knows. It's not that hard. On newer towers you don't even need a screwdriver. The rest is your eyes & ears.

I think you should take it to the computer store, if your having this much trouble opening the case? The inside will really have you asking us questions. Not to mention the risk of static electricity causing major damage or electrocution.
