Unfortunatly, an infestation like this will require the use of programs that need to be downloaded, and I am assumeing that you are unable to access another computer.
IF you are able download the following

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/dow...
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/dow...
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/dow...

This will make it easy to fix.

IF that is not an option there may be other steps, however it will involve manually changing the registry which is never my first option.

thanks,

mike

on another note you could try this as well

do a file search for

SMART_HDD.lnk

then right click on the file(preferences) to find target, and then delete the target file. ( in theory this would remove the active program?)

I think the problem was in the not being able to download, the third link above is also for malwarebytes, however the other two will help with the root kit

The infection is stopping the downloads, try this technique.

Example, trying to download Malwarebytes.

Click on the download link, then rename it before you download it to your desktop. As you are in the process of downloading when you get to the point that the "enter name of file to save to" box appears, in the "filename" slot, rename mbam-setup.exe to something.exe, then click Save.

Another way, is to download the programs from a good comp & put on a thumb drive.
You still may need to rename it, the infection may stop the install, see how you go, there are other ways to outsmart the infection.
