Without the device is connected to a computer, running a good anti-virus and other malware utilities, there is no way. A clean, well protected (anti-virus etc.) computer will allow you to scan attached devices and (hopefully, generally) deal with anything it finds?

✔ Best Answer
Boot off an AV rescue disc, that way the computer will be running directly off the disc rather than running off Windows. Then connect the external drive & run a scan.

When you plug a drive into the computer it will ask you what to do with it. Close the dialog box without selecting and autorun or even opening files. Then you run your scan on the drive, moat AV programs add a scan menu to the right click menu so if you right click on the drive in Computer (My PC) then select Scan Drive so it will just scan that drive. Repeat for Malwarebytes and ADWCleaner, scanning the entire computer if the options for scanning the drive is not easy to find in those programs.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
