Specs: Windows Vista
Hi All,

I have recently changed my anti virus from Norton to AVG 8.1.1 on my Windows Vista P.C. Now I am unable to create any kind of file in C drive and few folders in C drive. In order to access my database I need to create an oracle net work file in ORACLE_HOME folder. But it is not allowing me to do. Dur to this I am unable to run some wizards also. I am the administrator for this PC. When i checked properties I have read only permissions on this folder. Each time I change it, automatically it is setting back to read only. Please help me out.......

Thanks in advance

How are you.

Since it seems the problem is either AV8, registry problem created during uninstall/reinstall or leftover running processes from Nortons.

Lets first uninstall AVG8 using ADD/Remove.

Do a System Restore to a point before you uninstalled Nortons. This should get all of AVG8 out of your computer.

To do a System Restore in Vista go to Start >> and in the Start Search field type: MSCONFIG <enter>.

When the Configuration Menu opens click on the Tools (Tab), find System Restore in the menu and highlight ,,, click Launch to beign SR. Choose a date prior to the uninstall of Nortons and restore

Now to get all of Nortons out of your computers system Download and run the Nortons Removal Tool .. you can get it here:

Reboot your computer!

Now try and see if you can create your folders. If you are still having problems with creating files after running the Norton removal Tool, then post back we will need some logs from you.

... if you can now create folders you need to go ahead and reinstall a new Antivirus program. Need to go ahead and reinstall one even if you cant create new folders at this point.

You could try to reinstall AVG8, if the problem reocures then you know its a conflict with AVG8 and your system. If so then Uninstall it and try another free AV like Avast or Bitdefender.

Thanks a lot for your reply. After going through some forums, I have turned off UAC. Now I am able to create any kind of file in that folder. But is it okay to turn of UAC? Is there any security risk with turning off UAC? Please let me know.

Thanks again.........
