Solved Tracking scam dynamic IP addresses from Ghana

Bad IP Address's

Hi

I have been in contact with a Lady from Ghana for 6 months, but recently became concerned enough to collect her IP Address from a recent email and checked it online! The IP was listed against various money scams! On back checking through loads of emails from her, there are at least 7 consistent IP numbers in her emails: 196.201.51.16 through to 196.201.51.21, and when checked online, all are attached to Scams of various nature. When i brought this to her attention, she said she had purchased the computer from another second hand. Now i know this is true, but i am also aware that the last scam operator on IP 196.201.51.20 was 1 week ago, and the computer was purchased several months ago. Is it possible this is the Service provider passing out Alternating Dynamic IP Addresses that have been used by others, and corrupted the Address before my lady used them, or is it possible if her internet Service is being hijacked, and others are using her internet to scam?

When a computer using a dynamic IP address is shut down or the address is otherwise released it becomes available for use by others. If the address is used by dial up users this will probably happen several times a day. Over a period of years any given address has probably been used by hundreds or even thousands of different users. Any computer using a dynamic IP address could have hundreds of different Addresses over several years.

Thankyou to all for your responses, I am now more informed, but alas no nearer to resolving my doubts using this line of enquiry! As i understand it, and please correct if need be... A scammer using Dynamic IP's is virtually untracable via the IP Address alone, as this address may have been used by many users over many years, and just happens to be the IP Address that a possible innocent user mails to someone, and is totally unaware of the history attached to the address they use.. My lady claims innocence, and to be fair on my findings here, it is quite possible she is a victim of the nature of her service provider supplying Dynamic addresses to her! Oh well! back tothe drawing board lol :)

Hi Jennifer..

I am aware that the probability of Scamming is very high in regards to online romances with Ghana and Nigeria, and that many have been duped financially. On her Birthday i had flowers delivered to her given address, with a photo taken by the delivery agent. This corresponded with a photo i found of her on her schools online site, showing pictures of all the Teachers and their positions, which corresponded with what she had previously told me. I also got her to take a photo of herself while we were online, with her holding the flowers, which she did and uploaded it while we talked, so i am reasonably satisfied her identity is genuine. She is not a model type, and all photos are normal, non studio type. No money has been sent, and she wants to visit the UK, and is self funding this! My concern alighted when she said the Ghanian Visa application requested proof of my income while she is residing here, as proof that i could support her,and could i send a payslip.. Now this i am very reluctant to do, as the information on there would open me up to serious Identity thefth in the wrong hands, so i decidied to delve deeper, and that brought me here! I have emailled the Ghanian Visa dept in Accra, Ghana regarding this request, and await their responce!
