too little or not enough RAM to run Antivirus

Specs: Windows XP 2002, 2.26ghz /256mb
how can i get around the 256 ram i have vs the min req of 512ram. i used a spybot software on another system and liked it very much. do they make anti- virus software for my system?

thank you for the response I will investigate these options. I did find spybot and it seems to have worked fine. i downloaded it from cnet.com and i trust them from previous experience. so, i took the chance. so far i have not had the incredible slow down i experienced withthe bitdefender.

spybot is not an AV, it is for finding & removing infections, once you are infected.
