Sysvxd.exe (virus?)

March 10, 2009 at 09:35:02
Specs: Windows XP Pro SP2
I discovered the sysvxd.exe file in the WINDOWS folder and simply deleted it in safe mode.

I tried to download SP3 from the main microsoft update site and it a runtime error
with sysvxd.exe popped up and jammed the download.

I am an obvious beginner at all this, but eager to learn more than just taking my machine somewhere to get it fixed while I hide my head in the sand.

That, and the fact I refuse to lose to the b---tards that created this virus! ;-)

I'm assuming (by the lack of 'sysvxd' that shows up on a Google search) that this is just one program being run by a virus of another name.

I would be most greatful for any help to rid me of this little s---.

Thank you,

Hello, and thank you for the reply.

I have downloaded MB and am putting my machine through a full scan.

(at 1 hour and 23 minutes into scan)

Presently with 3 infected objects.

Will report back when it's done with the log report.

Again, thank you.

3 hours and 49 minutes later . . .

I am a happy camper :-)

M.B. did the job.
Thank you very much.

The sysvxd.exe file was part of the Trojan.FakeAlert vendor

All looks taken care of on re-boot.
I'll be back if I get anything else to report.

Ah! I do have a question.
What happens when I delete everything in the 'Quarantine' section of M.B. ?
Is the Quarantine more-or-less a log, or are the malicious files moved to a folder that's controlled by M.B. ?
