System Shut Down Virus

September 3, 2009 at 19:50:35
Specs: Windows XP
I have this above virus that gives me 60 seconds before shutting down. It locks the keyboard and the mouse and I am unable to do anything even in safemode. How can I fix it if I am unable to have control of the mouse or the keyboard?

Do what darko010101 suggests and run a free online virusscanner because you probably won't have one installed

formatting is a LAST resort.

Is that a wireless mouse and keyboard or ps2 or USB?
If it's wireless, I would suggest you try the other 2 options I suggested and see if they work.

Is this a laptop or a PC?

Guys I am sounding like a broken record but
GET YOURSELF A BOOTABLE WINTERNALS CD

You can boot from this CD, load the registry hives from your PC, edit it (clear the malware startup) Save and be Happy.

BTW This is a must for every good Admin.

As a smart guy above said FORMATTING IS THE LAST RESORT

I see people advicing REINSTALLS for the most common problems here.

Everything can be solved ! However there is this commercial issue saying, does it take longer than a complete reinstall.
With Winternals, non booting system will be under your control again !!

Winternals had been bought by MS (guess why)
however there are iso's on the net. Get one, burn yourself a CD and feel in control again.

If you have an XP install disc, try a repair install:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/...

Does your keyboard flash at all when you power up?
If so, hopefully it will work when you do the repair.
If it doesn't flash at all I would suggest you try another keyboard.

"hmm...

I tend to disagree with that.
If a repair goes fine, the PC should do fine.

no dark, a repair installation replaces ALL the damaged system files and the viruses STILL have to be removed.

For the last time, a REFORMAT only has to be done if a system still has issues that cannot be corrected AFTER a repair install if the virus has done too much damage.
