my symantec update gives me an error message every time I try to update it. Has not been updated since March 16 2013. One message suggested that I uninstall it and reinstall, I did and now I cannot reinstall. Any help is welcome. message edited by mikejehamsh77m
It probably won't re-install because there are still some remnants of it left on the hard drive, including the registry entries. Symantec are aware of that problem so they provide a removal tool here: https://support.norton.com/sp/en/uk...
Using a provided uninstaller for any anti-virus or firewall is always worthwhile. What usually goes wrong though is that the uninstall attempt is made while the program is still running. They are deliberately designed to prevent hacking, so always stop them from running before attempting an uninstall. Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
Hello, Which version of Symantec product you are trying to install? What exactly happens when you install? Are you getting any error message? I can check & assist you further.
Thanks!

Hello Harry
Thanks for the reply. I am a retiree of York University in Toronto. I believe the University has an ongoing contract with Symantec for all Profs (active otr retired) to use. I am not sure what version it is but it was installed on my laptop (running on Windows Vista) in 2009. let me know if you need any further info. Thanks. Mike
