start up sequence

Specs: xp
when i boot up my desktop it begins to start up then automatically logs itself off and continues to do this,im pretty sure its a virus but how the hell do i get rid of it?

tap f8 on startup and uncheck automatically restart. Then post the EXACT error message that comes up when it blue screens on the next start-up.

Thank you for your reply Mr XP i followed your instructions and on boot up chose to disable auto restart, which came up at the bottom of the screen in blue it then asked me to boot from xp which i had no choice,it never came up with a error message it whent straight on booting asked me for password did that then said please wait logging off????

well, you could try safemode and then use malwarebytes and remove all it finds.

I cant even get into the pc in safe mode i have tryed all modes it just continues the boot up to password sign in then just tells you nits logging off

you may have to use an xp disc and do a repair install if that is the case. Don't forget home= home and pro= pro, you cannot mix and match.

Thanks all for your replies i am very near to solving the problem i used a xp disc i now seem to have two versions of xp on my pc lol so what i have done is used the new installation to fault find the previous install i downloaded a anti virus program and am currently scanning for problems,should be all ok from here on in, and i just saved myself £50.00 which the local pc robber wanted just to get rid of the virus, once again thanks all
