Sounds coming from my computer, virus?

Compaq Hp compaq 15.6

Specs: Windows Vista
My computer has been making weird whirring noises. Not when it starts up, but a little bit afterward. Especially when I'm watching things, like on youtube. I don't have secure security on my PC, so I'm afraid it's a virus. How can I tell? Should I buy some antivirus software? If so, which one and what can help? Or should I call someone to repair my PC?

Um, I'm sorry, but it's not a notebook or whatever, but it's a home PC.

While your "whirring" noise is more likely from a fan or drive (hardware-related, not software- or virus-related), you're just asking for big trouble these days without some type of virus-protection. You don't have to buy anything (though some may argue that point); several programs are free:

Thank you, I have downloaded some Antivirus now, but I'm now suffering some other problem. I tried following the guidelines to this: http://www.computing.net/howtos/sho... but now my computer won't start normally. I have to use safe mode to get onto the internet. What should I do?
