redirect virus

December 15, 2010 at 08:29:06
Specs: Windows 7, intel Q9300/8gb
I am working with a computer for a friend that has this redirect virus, I have looked at some of these posts and tried some of the fixes on my own but it seems that this virus takes many forms and hides in many places, So could some one please assist me. It may take some time as this is not my computer so when I get a response or direction I will have to go to the location to follow the provided steps and upload the need logs.

Thanks in advance

TDSSKiller.exe - nothing found

Also ran
exeHelper.com
OTL.exe
TFC.exe

After running those three, the redirect problem went away in firrefox, but good 'ol IE continues to be infected.

Now Granted, I probably didn't run OTL.exe properly as it had many settings.

I did maintain the logs from running these.

Thanks

Do a HIJACKTHISLOG (probably spelling it wrong) and post the log.

Computers are needed forever.

computereater is being a fool, asks you for the hijackthis log and then doesn't try helping. Go figure. He was suggesting you put the PC back to factory defaults and that is NOT needed for a browser redirect.

If you need your hjt results, just past your log into :
http://www.hijackthis.de/
and then google the questionable items to see if they can be deleted.

Tap f8 on bootup and then choose safemode with networking. Then download and run malwarebytes and run a scan in full mode deleting all it finds.;

Then reboot and run:
rkill.exe (it will kill the rogue process)
tdss killer (will remove rootkit if it is present)
malwarebytes in full mode again. (remove all it finds)

CAP down, no need to be shouting. The only free utilities on that site you offered is google apps, the others are all pay progs, I would not recommend that to any people.

I did not see anything wrong and I had a problem just like this before, 2 times
I have been doing PC repairs for almost 10 yrs now.

I would suggest that unless you are an expert you shouldn't be asking people to post their HJT logs, that is why they have that ruling in computing.net.
Happy computing ;-)

Did you download any game software. Especially named Gamevance? I see it in your HJT log. Or has it been on your pc before you had the infection? Im not saying its your problem, or to remove it. But you should have a look at it.

Try downloading HitmanPro 3.5 run it and see what it finds?
http://download.cnet.com/Hitman-Pro...
Hitman Pro needs to be connected to the internet to run.
