Redirect virus I can't get rid of.

March 13, 2012 at 21:49:09
Specs: Windows Vista
I am afflicted by some sort of redirect virus, and I have run Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware, SUPERAntispyware, and AVAST, none of which have fixed the problem. I also ran ComboFix, and it did not fix the problem. Any Suggestions?

Yeah, whenever I do any sort of search on google (or other search engine) if I try to click on one of the links that comes up, I am somehow redirected to some other bogus site which has nothing to do with the site I was trying to access.

This procedure has a great success rate
Run these 3 progs in EXACTLY the order listed and don't reboot after the last scan of Malwarebytes
1- rkill.exe (stops the process)
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/dow...
2- tdss killer (quarantines unwanted rootkit if found)
http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?q...
3- malwarebytes (run a full scan and fix all it finds then reboot)

If that does not remove it....run the same in Safe Mode and that should do the trick.

Just tried it, and no success yet. I will try it in safe mode shortly. And thank you for your suggestions, they are appreciated.

I have now followed these steps, both in regular mode and in safe mode, and have had no success. I am still afflicted with the problem. RKill found and deleted 2 things on the first attempt and 1 the second time (in safe mode) and TDSS Killer didn't find anything on either attempt and neither did Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware.

I have already run Hitman Pro without finding anything. But I will run again. Do you have a safe link for downloading Trojan Remover. I'm a little scared to just google trojan remover and then trust one of the links that comes up.

I just used hitman pro to get rid of the redirect virus. It deleted a malware the first time I ran it, but I still had the problem. I decided to run Hitman Pro again. The second time I told it to delete all "suspicious" files that its default setting said to ignore the first time around. Now the problem is gone. It cost $20 and about 30 minutes of my time once I decided to use it.
