Specs: WINDOWS XP, 2.0 ghz / 448 mb
First of all, I've downloaded the updated java software, but my computer refuses to allow the scan.
I am having redirect problems and a virus problem... it started off with 2009 MS antispyware, which I tried to delete. When I did Google seaches for online help, I got redirected. I've downloaded several spyware removal programs, which all seemed to be free, which weren't...
I've run a HiJackThis scan and, if this helps, are the results. (Which I deleted from this post, due to website posting guidelines).
Your help would be appreciatted...

Follow up....
I posted my first question last night and this morning I logged on and checked my responses... and saw none.
So I decided to check "other" posts to figure out what I should do. I saw one that sounded like it was the same as my problem, and I perform this ....

Browse to Non-Plug and Play Drivers and click the + sign to the left, you should see something like TDSSserv.sys in that list.
Highlight that driver and right click on it and select DISABLE - NOT uninstall.
Now RESTART your computer

No more redirect, my computer works a lot faster... but I doubt my problem is completely diagnosed... please help

Browse to Non-Plug and Play Drivers and click the + sign to the left, you should see something like TDSSserv.sys in that list.
Highlight that driver and right click on it and select DISABLE - NOT uninstall.
Now RESTART your computer. again, Try to connect to the internet.

I don't see an antivirus program running, to continue to need to install one.

You can download the free version of AVG antivirus at this link:
AVG Free Antivirus

Update it once you get it installed.

We will need to disable the antivirus program to run some scans. To do this click the AVG icon in the systray (bottom right of your screen)> then click exit.

Please download ComboFix to the desktop from one of the following links:

Link1

Link 2

Link 3

Rename the setup file, combofix.exe, before you download it. To do that once the "enter name of file to save to" box appears as the download begins in the filename box rename combofix.exe to toolb.exe> click save.

Combofix is a powerful tool so follow the instructions exactly or you could damage your computer.

Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with Combofix and remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
Click on This Link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.

In your case to run Combofix do the following:
1. Go offline turn off your AVG antivirus, and any antispyware that you may have.
2. Run Combofix and save its log.
3. Restart the computer to get the antivirus running again but leave the antispyware programs off until we get the computer cleaned.
4. Post the Combofix log.

Remember to re-enable the protection again afterwards before connecting to the Internet.

Double-click combofix.exe
Follow the prompts.
(Don't click on the window while the program is running or move the mouse, it will cause your system to hang.)
Please post the log it produces.

I downloaded Spyhunter, they couldn't do anything for me unless I purchased the software, they scanned it! they alerted me! Spyhunter is "pay for me" virus software.

AVG antivirus... even the "free" anti virus webpage promotes their "better than free" virus software that isn't free...

the free software is huge (60MG)... is that true?

I don't want to sound bitter, I'm trying to clean the spyware, delete all spyware, free, is that possible?

Following the directions and running Combofix will most likely remove part of the bad files and show us the remaining ones. It is not 100% but better than what you just tried.

If the malware is not removed you will sooner or later have to format the hard drive and reinstall windows or at a minimum take it to a repair shop.

updating java dos,nt solve this problem, you should run an anti spyware program because this MS ANTISPYWARE 2009 is a fake program, it is a ROGUE SPYWARE itself that appears as security programs in diffrent forms like ANTIVIRUS 2009, VIRUS REMOVE, MS ANTI SPYWARE, VIRUS RESPONSE LAB 2009, etc etc. you can try this manual removal guide to get ride of this spyware atack http://remove-fake-antivirus2009.fl... or download and run Super anti spyware (free edition) , it works http://darfuns.com/download-super-a...

I downloaded AVG antivirus software, installed it, got excited that it was going to clean up my comuter and it found several threats.

I went to the next step (as mentioned above in response #4) and noticed I wasn't supposed to let it scan my system.

Where do I go from here?

The request to install the AVG antivirus program is simply because you are not running an antivirus program so you have no protection at all on your computer. AVG will not, by itself, remove the infections on your computer.

Along with the AVG installation suggestion was the informative paragraph:

"We will need to disable the antivirus program to run some scans. To do this click the AVG icon in the systray (bottom right of your screen)> then click exit." Do not omit this.

"Double-click combofix.exe"... it does have an icon, red circle/white cat, that you hopefully renamed toolb.exe.

With the Combofix log we can continue.

As I mentioned... I downloaded combofix again from a different website, and it seemed to run better... until I got a warning from Combofix: stating that I
had 2 antivirus programs running.

1. AVG, which I disabled, per your instructions. somehow it thinks its still running.
2. Norton, which I could find on my computer. I went to Add & Remove programs and could find it. I did a search and found a file, registration code, which must have been from an old install. I couldn't find any other files or programs.

What are my options? should I run an uninstall on AVG or ignore it?

Download ATF Cleaner from this link:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/ATF_Cleaner_d4949.html
Run ATF-Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

Run an online scan with Kaspersky from the following link:
Kaspersky Online Scanner

Note: If you have used this particular scanner before, you MAY HAVE TO UNINSTALL the program through Add/Remove Programs before downloading the new ActiveX component

1. Click Accept, when prompted to download and install the program files and database of malware definitions.
2. Click Run at the Security prompt.
The program will then begin downloading and installing and will also update the database.
Please be patient as this can take several minutes.
3.Once the update is complete, click on My Computer under the green Scan bar to the left to start the scan.
4. Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.
5. Do NOT be alarmed by what you see in the report. Many of the finds have likely been quarantined.
6. Click View scan report at the bottom.
7. Click the Save Report As... button.
8. Click the Save as Text button to save the file to your desktop so that you may post it in your next reply.
**Note**

To optimize scanning time and produce a more sensible report for review:
Close any open programs.
Turn off the real-time scanner of all antivirus or antispyware programs while performing the online scan.
Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble viewing the accept button of the license, click on the Zoom tool located at the bottom right of the IE window and set the zoom to 75%. Once the license is accepted, reset to 100%.

Navigate to and empty the Nortons quarantine folder.

Open Notepad and copy/paste everything between the X's into it and make sure the first word (such as KILLALL, File, Folder, Registry etc.) is at the very top of the page.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
KILLALL::
File::
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\setupxv.exe
D:\i386\Apps\App03130\comps\toolbar\toolbr.exe

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Go to File on the top bar and choose" Save As", Change the "Save As Type" to All Files, Name it CFScript.txt then save it to your desktop.
Then drag/drop the CFScript.txt onto ComboFix.exe (the red symbol on your desktop) if combofix does not auto start click "run".

Go to start> run> type in combofix /u (note the space after combofix) then press enter> run. This will uninstall combofix so give the uninstaller a minute to run.

Your computer appears to be clean other than the above exceptions.

Go to start> run> type in combofix /u (note the space after combofix) then press enter> run. This will uninstall combofix so give the uninstaller a minute to run.

Go to start> control panel> add/remove programs and uninstall these programs:

Hijack This

Malwarebytes

Kaspersky

You should keep AFT Cleaner and run it weekly.

You should consider adding "Spywareblaster" to your arsenol of antispyware tools, you can download it from this link Spywareblaster

Just download it,install it, and update it. Its free and runs in the background, so you don't actually run it, and re-writes malicious script before it can install on your computer. Look for updates weekly as there is no auto-update on the free version.

How is the computer operating?
