Red shield and security in control panel doesn't work

July 7, 2012 at 08:13:43
Specs: Windows XP, dual core 3htz's
I did my yearly swap of Sata HD and re-installed Win XP w SP3. I went to control panel and opened up security icon and unchecked the 3 things so as to not be bothered with the "you need to update now constantly in my face... I do my updating on my own dont need windows to constantly remind me of it. I installed regular bug detector, MS Essential, and anti V pgms also AVG is running in back ground. Ran malware, hijack this, and micro-trend to name a few pgms but my Security icon in the control panel doesn't work and I got the red shield in the lower right close to my time and the AVG icon but can not remove it any help. I do not get virus popups from the security in control or from the red thing either but from AVG when something hits.
Also I read all the items here concerning how to remove it so some new ideas would be nice

You CANNOT have 2 AV's running at the same time...uninstall either one.
