There's plenty of info about it on the web - - just use Google Search to find relevant pages.

The absolute first step is to make a good back up of your system to a external drive that is not normally connected to the system to secure your important files.
The second step in my opinion is to make an image of the hard drive to an external drive.
The back up protects what is important, after repairing, restoring, or reinstalling you can put everything back.
The system image makes it so that you do not have to reinstall everything from scratch, saving you a lot of time and effort.
If you use the built in back up for Windows 7 to make both, make a Windows 7 Repair Disk from the same area of the system. With the repair disk you can perform start up repairs, system restores on nonbooting systems, and reimage the drive from scratch or to a new drive.
After that make sure that your antivirus program and antiMalware program are quality and up to date.
Lastly, watch what you click on, use manual/custom settings on program installers (uncheck the junk that comes with many free stuff), do no open attachments unless you expect them, even from people you know (ask people to send you a heads up if they are sending you an attachment).
Read up online from trusted sources/sites.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
