Open with virus won't let me open any program

Specs: Windows XP
Alright guys so by any means I am not computer illiterate and i've had some experiences removing viruses. The problem this time for me is that even in safe mode i can't open any programs in my computer without it asking me "What do I want to open with?" Mozilla is the only internet explorer that is working and if i try and load AVG it won't let me because it says it's not executable. I can't even download any spyware removal stuff. Can anyone help me remove this virus from my computer? It started when I was researching a reicpe on google when I noticed a strange website called "jump" popped up and i tried to get out of it. After that that is when it keeps asking me what programs do i want to open this program with. I can't even run media player and my computer was working just fine ten minutes ago please help me i'd appreciate it :)

Demanyo,

Give this a whirl first to fix the exe file association:

Go to: http://www.dougknox.com/

In the left hand column, click: WinXP fixes
In the list that appears, click: File Association fixes
In the next list, click: EXE File Association Fix

Next, save the file to the Desktop
Go to the Desktop, and right-click the xp_exe_fix.zip file
Select: Extract all…
A folder: xp_exe_fix appears

Open the folder, and double click the xp_exe_fix.reg file
Allow it to run and the reg file to merge

Check this additional guidance on the website:

“NOTE: If your EXE file associations are corrupted, it can be difficult to open REGEDIT, or to even import REG files.

To work around this, press CTRL-ALT-DEL and open Task Manager.
Once there, click File, then hold down the CTRL key and click New Task (Run). This opens a Command Prompt window.
Enter REGEDIT.EXE and press Enter.”

What was posted above was for Windows XP.

If you are having the same type of problem, please start your own topic, and someone will help you.
