I recently caught an AV.exe virus and tried to remove it. After restarting my computer a number of problems happened.
When I try to run any file by clicking on it (including in the start>run options) I instead am given the Open file with... prompt. even if its a setup file or .exe file.
If I select firefox this way it asks me what I want to open firefox with, and even if I select I want to open it with a program, I am asked what to open THAT program with, and so on, and so forth.
I *CAN* however run a file if I right click and select start. but its annoying that I cant access regedit and restart explorer.exe anymore.

Also, it appears to have corrupted my rundll.exe, as I can no longer access any of my control panel options.

I could normally fix the rundll.exe problem, but not with the open file problem im having.

Did you disable System Restore before cleaning the virus? If not, you should.

To fix the Open With problem

Click Start
Type: regsvr32 /i shell32

Follow the instructions at the link below. "Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware" is Free and should get rid of it.
