Notel VPN Client on Windows7 can't reach serv

April 5, 2011 at 13:29:54
Specs: Windows 7, 64Bit
I have installed Nortel VPN Client (v10.04.016) on my Windows 7 64 bit machine and when I attempt to connect I get the error message "Failed to connect for the following reason: Unable to reach server."

I know the server is reachable because my Windows XP machine can connect just fine. Any ideas where to look? I don't think its a firewall issue because I get the error even with Windows Firewall turned off.

Thanks, but it did not help. I have a feeling that its something in Windows... a regsitry setting, or some networking setting that is causing the issue, but I can't figure out what it is. I don't think its an actual bug in the Nortel Client, but the Nortle Client does a terrible job of reporting the error and does little to help me solve the issue.

@vlaz55 : I'm facing the same problem too. Did you find any solution to the problem? Please let me know if you did, I'm finding it very hard to overcome this and it is stopping me from working on my Win 7 64-bit OS.

I did not find a fix, but I found a workaround... I have installed the Windows Virtual PC for Windows 7 and installed the VPN in the Windows XP virtual machine. Its not an ideal solution, but it does allow me to get email via the VPN as I installed Outlook on the VM as well. Its a bit of a waste of HD space, but it gets the job done.
