None of my .exe files will work

Specs: Windows Vista
My Norton AntiVirus recently ran out, and before I could get another one, my computer started flipping out and telling me it was infected.

So I bought a new version and installed and did a scan to get rid of the infected stuff and when I started my laptop again, none of my .exe files work.

Well, they work, but only if I go to a file that uses the program to open it then click on it. I can't just open the program be clicking on the icon.

Hunting on the internet has told me that my Norton has gotten rid of the infected files, but not repaired them and advised I download McAfee's Fixswen so I did but when I click install it askes me for permission which I give then nothing happens.

Please help me, I can do anything and I have to go a roundabout way just look at my documents!

UmberRose, Go to the link below and download the exe file association fix and run it. Usage instructions are on the page. If the exe file fix doesn't solve the problem then download and run the lnk file fix.
