My son purchased a Toshiba Satellite x205 laptop at a yard sale and they did not provide a password for the BIOS. Is there anything I can do about it??? Thanks.
There is an old trick that might work here. I don't know that laptop model off the top of my head but with what I can tell you, maybe you can research a bit and find out where it is. Unplug the laptop and take the battery out. Then, remove the CMOS battery and leave it all unplugged for about 20 minutes (just in case) and put everything back together. This will reset the BIOS for you where no password is needed.

My book of password issues is almost complete...LOL....thanks for another exerpt.
Unfortunately passwords are a major THEFT prevention feature that CANNOT be cracked by software and removing bios batteries etc.... Just call the Toshiba tech support....report your dilema and then be ready to prove ownership with actual documents. Other than that, you may have to use the laptop as a paperweight.... good luck...
Without the password, there is no way you can even install a different HD....it is physically impossible...Some HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions 7 Golds
