No Network Access - Possible Virus?

January 29, 2011 at 10:41:34
Specs: Windows Vista
Hey, laptop was working fine this morning then decided to disconect from my router. Router working fine as X Box conects also the PC upstairs and wifey's i phone. When you start the laptop up it connects for a minute then disconnects. When you try to select a network manually it says there are none. I have restarted the laptop in "safe mode with networking" and it connects fine, I am typing this in safe mode. I think a virus which starts when I turn the laptop on is disconnecting me. And now the PC upstairs is not connecting either so I think it has spread itself. I use Sophos and Ad Aware but am unable to update either at the moment as I can't find a way to update them while in this limited "safe" mode. Deffo no problem with the router. Help!

Try Safe mode with Networking.

Go ahead while in safe mode, download and install MBAM. You can find MalwareBytes Antimalware at this link:

Go ahead and do a full scan while in safe mode with MBAM.

Next boot into normal mode and run MBAM again in normal mode.

At this point, open IE. Do you have internet connect? If not click on Tools >> internet options >> and scroll down click on the reset button and check to clear any personal settings. This will break any BHO's or add-ons that maybe interferring with IE. Close IE and reopen IE. Do you have a connection?
