NAV Error message: scan stopped by user

Specs: Windows XP
I can not run the Norton AntiVirus. The following notification appears anytime I run the software: "sacn stopped by the user". In the scanning history the status is "scanning" and it results as an uncompleted process. How can I fix this problem in order to enable the scanning. Thank, Biljana

Is your NAV subscription up to date? The error message scan stopped by user usually mean the software you are using has reached its EOL (End of Life).

On our systems the fix was the HKEY_Current_User solution:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\INTEL\LANDesk\VirusProtect6\CurrentVersion\Custom Tasks\BootScan
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\INTEL\LANDesk\VirusProtect6\CurrentVersion\Custom Tasks\Default Scan Options

For us it seems the latest Microsoft "update" messed w/ the Symantec registry entries. Note the date of the Symantec article, 19 May 2010. They were quick to suggest a fix to this mess. Kudos Symantec. M$, byte me.

THANK YOU!! I've been chasing this thing for weeks on and off. Didn't seem like a real virus threat, but not being able to scan and failing at the boot sector is scary. This fixed it!

Hi, I've the same problem.

I red the article at symantec

I just achiev until HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\INTEL\,
after I have just a folder named "Indeo".
