Run System Restore (if active) to at least a week ago. Once back up, install and run Malwarebytes and ADWcleaner to make sure that you are free of malware. Copy/Paste the logs of both into replies here for review in case further action is necessary. Also let us know if the files/icons are back to normal.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Sounds really shady, I've done something like this before.
try uploading the file to https://www.virustotal.com
the site will scan the file with about 64 anti-virus programs & show you the result

if it is a confirmed virus/spyware/malware run a virus-scanner like Malwarebytes Sugested by Fingers in #1

if its one of those self-replicating/shape shifting ones, just do a damn system recovery, haha

Thanks for the tips. I've installed malwarebytes and there was a ton of threats identified. The only issue is that the exes files got deleted and after some time if I still scan with malwarebytes I keep on seeing threats no matter his many times I empty the quarantine.

"after some time if I still scan with malwarebytes I keep on seeing threats no matter his many times I empty the quarantine"

Copy & Paste the contents of both logs in your next reply please.

Next step after doing that.

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it onto your Desktop. If your default download location is not the Desktop, drag it out of it's location onto the Desktop.

If we have to run Farbar more than once, refer this SS.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.
Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
Press Scan button.
It will make a log (FRST.txt) on the Desktop.
The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt) on the Desktop.
The logs are large, upload them using one of these. No time delays/Captcha-I'm not a Robot/account/registration needed. Give us the links please.
