my DHCP client won't start, help

Microsoft Windows xp home edition w/sp2
May 30, 2010 at 19:02:06
Specs: Windows xp professional home edition
Whenever I restart, I can't get online until I manually start the service "DHCP Client" even though it is set at "Automatic". Also I am constantly redirected to advertising pages whenever I search for something in Google. I have run Mcafee antivirus and Malwarebytes antimalware and neither fixes the problelm. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Try running a scan with Hitman Pro 3.5. in safe mode (F8) http://download.cnet.com/Hitman-Pro... , you can also try ComboFix http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/com... or try the instructions found on this post here: http://darfuns.com/remove-google-se...

thank you so very much. I had already tried ComboFix with no luck, so I tried Hitman. I was not able to use it in safe mode, so I tried it in regular mode and it found a file called pciide.sys and called it a "Rootkit". After Hitman removed the file, I was able to get online again normally, I no longer am being redirected to advertising pages instead of the page I want, my computer is running much more quietly, rebooting is much faster than before, and Windows Update has started working again. I hadn't realized that it wasn't working until I tried updating to help fix my problem. I had more problems than what I knew of and they all seem to be fixed. Again, thanks so much, you are a lifesaver (and a money saver too)!

Anytime!. You could also go to www.download.com, and try Smart-Defrag, I think it works a lot better than the normal Defrag option in Windows if you wanted to keep your system running at top speed.
