Mouse Cursor Skips

Specs: Windows XP Home Edition
Hey guys, I have a friends laptop and i've been
trying to help him fix it. His mouse cursor is
skipping a lot - we went through and deleted
some old files/programs that were unused, and
defragged his computer because it was pretty
badly fragmented.

This stopped the skipping for about a day - but
now it's back to skipping. It is not a MOUSE
specific problem we've tried several different
ones and his glide pad also skips.

I've noticed that his mouse does not skip in
safe mode.

Anyone have any ideas what we need to do?

Have you tried to perform a VIRUS scan after you defrag?

I also think you may be infected.

Download, install, update & run these.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
If it won't run, rename the downloaded mbam-setup.exe file to mb.exe to help work around certain malware that will block it from being run.
If it still will not run.
1: Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features and uninstall Malwarebytes.
Next redownload Malwarebytes but rename it before you download it to your desktop. As you are in the process of downloading when you get to the point that the "enter name of file to save to" box appears, in the "filename" slot, rename mbam-setup.exe to something.exe, then click Save.
If it installed but will not run navigate to this folder:
2: C:\Programs Files\Malwarebytes' AntiMalware
Rename all the .exe files in the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware folder and try to run it again.

Thanks guys, but wow was the conclusion weird.

His laptop's wireless card was actually conflicting with our wireless signal. Even though his laptop wasn't connected through wireless, it was directly plugged in it caused his card to search for signals constantly driving up his CPU useage and latency.

Disabling the card makes the laptop run great - weird stuff. Thanks anyways.
