Solved Microsoft Security Essentials vs Windows Security Essentials

Specs: Windows XP, Intel P4 - 2.8 ghz; 512 RAM
I have both Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows Security Essentials (incl. Firewall, Auto Updates and VIRUS PROTECTION) running on my old pc. Since they both have a virus protection, do I need both? It seems that this pc is always downloading updates and slows the pc terribly.

"Windows Security Essentials"
Are you sure that is the exact name? Maybe I've missed something but I've never heard of it.

It is not good to have two Anti-Virus programs running in real time, for the reason you gave. They tend to "check each other" and cause slow downs.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Never heard of "Windows Security Essentials" either. Some kind of malware?

Or, are you confusing it with a search that leads to MSE? Something is strange here.

There is a genuine "Microsoft Security Essentials", but there is no such thing as "Windows Security Essentials" as far as I'm aware, unless it is some fake software you've installed which is really malware - and that could explain why your PC is running slow.
