"1. The Metropolitan Police virus"
No.

"2. A problem installing Kaspersky Security Scan"
That is the infection doing it's job & is normal.

We now have to use many tools to outsmart your version of the infection.

As we dismantle the infection bit by bit, that may allow the repeat use of programs, which may in turn pick up more.
Removal of infected parts of the system, may cause other parts to stop working, such as your Internet connection or Services. These we then, have to repair.

If any program won't run ( due to the infection ) let me know.

Copy and Paste the contents of the log/logs after running each program.

1: Run HitmanPro Kickstart. Note: You will need a USB flash/thumb/pen drive to use this method.

Hi Johnw,

Metropolitan Police message appeared stating 'Your browser has been blocked..." in red letters! Made me panic. So I immediately went offline but ignored message for awhile! Then when calmed down I decided to go back online to investigate! Found out that the Metropolitan Police virus was 'doing the rounds' again! Also read on 2 sites to use, which I already have, the following: a Kaspersky program (I downloaded Kaspersky Security Scan), Hitman Pro, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Microsoft Security Essentials. Also used Microsoft Windows Malicious Removal tool. Have used all mentioned programs in Safe Mode except for Kaspersky Security Scan.
Although, so far, none of the programs found any 'nasties' I did notice that there were 2 Kaspersky setup programs to install in the Download folder. Obviously I tried the first Kaspersky setup that I saw. That is where the 'trouble' started! Blue screen warning in continuous loop! Started in Safe Mode and tried again! Same thing happened! So used System Restore to return to desktop in non-Safe Mode! Removed the 'said' program using IObit Unlocker and File Shredder!

Hi Johnw,

I hope my reply for clarification is sufficient. Also, if there is anything else you need to know then please ask me by returned reply. But please note 2 things: 1. I am a member of 3 computer 'help' websites; 2. Getting fed up of experts NOT understanding what I am 'talking about' or not 'getting it' - a lot of the time I have to explain in detail and can get frustrating. So, asking kindly, PLEASE give me credit as I am an experienced user! Thank you from Mahjonng

Hi Johnw,

Tried to install Kaspersky Internet Security program. But I stopped it because it was
taking too long to install and it kept on 'doing' a loop!

We also still have Hitman Pro, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Microsoft Security
Essentials installed as well as the Microsoft Windows Malicious Removal tool.

Have also used the Comodo firewall in the past as well as other smaller firewalls!

So, the questions is, yet again, which I have asked on another site: which firewall &
'anti-nasty' scanner should we use?

Also, the other question is: should we keep what is already installed and re-install
the Comodo firewall?

Thank you from

Mahjonng

You would be best advised to stick with what Johnw has started. He will take you through a process to clean the machine, as he has done with many other posters on this forum. Even if you have used some of these programs before then the sequence can be important - some being required to run more than once.

If you feel experienced enough to go through that process yourself, interpret the results, then know what is best to do next (which varies with the situation) then that is of-course an option.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Hi Mahjonng.

"We also still have Hitman Pro"

That is not what I have asked you to run, it is quite different to HitmanPro Kickstart.

Hi Johnw,

Thank you for your reply. But I have a question: "is HitmanPro Kickstart a Freeware program and FREE to download?".

If "yes" which TRUSTED website can I download and install (have made a list of trusted websites)?".

Reason I ask: "DO NOT own credit card, have NO money, and no account like PayPal to pay"!

Thank you from

Hi Johnw,

Thank you again for your reply.

The link that you provided me is
for downloading Hitman Pro v3.7.

Have already downloaded, installed
and used in Safe Mode.

But I have NOT used it in Safe Mode
- Networking!

So, although this laptop is NOT part
of a network I have a question:
"would you advise me to use it for
that?".

Correct me if I am wrong but is that
something to do with the internet?

Thank you for your patience in this
matter and I look forward to receiving
your reply soon in the near future.

"The link that you provided me is for downloading Hitman Pro v3.7"
.It includes Kickstart.

Hi Johnw,

Thank you again for your reply.

Also the link that you provided
me downloaded Hitman Pro
version 3.7.8.208, which I had
already downloaded!

But, have question: do I have to
use an USB flash drive to use
HitmanPro Kickstart program?

There are is a reason why I ask
that question:
Have a 4GB USB flash drive. But
have not used yet as was keeping
it to use as extra memory for a
small tower desktop computer.

So, have another question: could I
use a SD card in a USB card reader
instead?

If "yes" what is the procedure of how
to use it?

Thank you from

Hi Johnw,

Thank you for your reply.

My reply briefly is the
following:
"Have used Hitman Pro
and Kaspersky Recue
Disc on USB flash drive
during boot up - both
have not found anything
so far"!

Have also used other
scanners including
Microsoft Security
Essentials in desktop
normal mode - will
sometime use that and
other scanners in Safe
Mode and during boot
up soon!

Thank you from
