Solved Looking for a cheap and reliable antivirus

June 14, 2017 at 03:20:07
Specs: Android
I have a new PC and recently my free McAfee subscription has expired. Have searched the net and found that the most popular antivirus solutions are bitdefender and kaspersky. The lowest price for Bitdefender total security I could found is $24.98 here Kaspersky looks good but I couldn't find discount more than 50%. Maybe smb know where to find a cheaper price for Bitdefender or Kaspersky?

I have used AVG paid version for many many years and have had no issues with it at all. Many people here will suggest you use free Antivirus software others will recommend using bit defender, either way I will stick with AVG. If you go on to Groupon and search for AVG you can get it for £20 for a two year license. This includes a firewall, web protection, anti virus etc.

make sure you get the suite rather than jus the antivirus (if you opt for AVG of course)

I prefer Webroot Secure Anywhere.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

I use avira antivir free edition & malwarebytes
while keeping windows up to date

I have not had an infection in the last 2 years :)))

Last serious one was a fake Ukash police virus.
I got reinfected 2 times in 1 week + infecting my brother's laptop too.
Had to manually remove it, main file was called r0per0dun.exe with another file hidden in %appdata% called nud0rep0r.exe (yeah its typed backwards, topkek) they kept copying themselves over if one got deleted while terminating explorer.exe & opening a window like wannacrypter saying i had CP on my pc & turning on my camera+displaying it on the screen.
Meanwhile i could not get the camera to work myself for months haha.

P.S. forgot to mention that avira only shows the location, you have to remove virusses manually.

Simple solutions are often the best

Sure you need an AV but a well known freebie will do fine - only virus I've ever had was in the Windows 95/98 days. Since XP I've been using Windows Defender and it's earlier incarnations. Being security minded and internet savvy is probably the main reason some folk have had no viruses.

There is no virus checker that finds everything. If you suspect undetected malware run ADWCleaner, Junkware Removal Tool and MalwareBytes freebie.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
