Laptop freezing shortly after boot up

July 6, 2010 at 03:09:57
Specs: Windows Vista
I'm having a few problems with my laptop... It boots up okay but shortly after booting up the screen freezes, this can be anywhere between 1-5mins in to a session. The problem being that i cant run spybot or any other type of virus check or indeed any other program as once it starts running it tends to just freeze. The performance is also extremely slow compared to what it used be... I've tried booting up in safe mode but this doesn't seem to work, its almost like computer disregards safe mode and loads up normally....
Any help would be greatly appreciated

... have you tried Acer Recovery? There may even be an option to backup your data!

... of course this depends on the Acer Recovery.

Thanks mavis007,

I've tried the acer recovery tool about 4 or 5 times now but like everything else it just hangs up just as the process starts and then i'm given the black screen of death swiftly followed by an unable to perform operation warning!
I should have put that in my original post....

... quite right or we'll be covering old ground, one should furnish us with much relevant info!

"...I've tried booting up in safe mode but this doesn't seem to..."

... have you tried the "Repair" option after tapping <F8> <key> @ bootup?

Yeah, i tried the repair option last night that you suggested but unfortunatley this did nothing as well. I also manged to return my laptop to a previous restore point which i had been unable to do through Acer Recovery but this also had no effect...

I'm at a bit of a loss what to do

... did you try the Acer Recovery "method" described @ (click) blue link #Response Number 1 ?

... it might be worth entering your bios to see if it stays on for longer that your five minutes prior!
