is Windows Web Security legitimate?

Specs: Windows 7
As I was browsing several websites, suddenly, with all kinds of red test flashing, several windows popped up telling me my computer is infected. I'm suspicious that this is in itself an infection. We have McAfee so shouldn't that have caught any infections? I am afraid that if I give this Windows Web Security the "go ahead" to "disinfect" it will actually be doing harm to my computer. Am I too suspicious or what?

I have no specific knowledge of that product but it sounds very suspicious. There is no way that a website can possibly know your system is infected without you first downloading an Active X applet or something similar. With any legitimate website this could not take place without your knowledge, and they don't report their findings that way. Also, your description is similar to the many fake programs out there.
