Is this a virus - Chinesep.pps

January 19, 2011 at 06:29:17
Specs: Windows XP
received an email from someone I don't know, sent from a university I don't correspond with. It has an attachment called "Chinesep.pps" and has the simple message "It does work."

There is no explanation as to what the file is, or what they mean by "it works." (In a twisted sort of way, if it IS a virus, yes of course it works -- if you double click on it, it launches and highjacks your email addresses.)

Is this file called "Chinesep.pps" a virus?

This message is most likely SPAM but may also contain a virus. Since the sender is unknown you should delete the message without opening it.

You should check all incoming email attachments with a reliable ant-virus product. If you do not have one, why not?

.pps is power point show. So whatever it's done using powerpoint, but if you don't know who it's from....delete it.
